2 Great Reasons to Consider Outsourcing vs. Employees

November 17th, 2011

Owning a web based business can be very rewarding, indeed, but it’s only a living if you can crack the code to making money with your website. As every internet marketer knows, traffic generation is one of the most important keys to success with virtually any online endeavor. But driving traffic to your website is no easy task, especially not if you’re trying to accomplish all the necessary tasks yourself. You do have options in this arena, however; the primary two to consider being 1) hiring and training employees, or 2) outsourcing your marketing tasks to a professional website promotion company. Here are a couple of things to consider as you determine which option will work best for your specific business marketing needs.

1. Hiring and Training Employees

You might consider hiring and training either part time or full time employees to handle the promotion and maintenance of your online business. The truth is, however, that even contracted employees can wind up costing you more than their services are worth in the long run. Some of the difficulties you might run into trying to train and manage employees include:

Very few potential employees are experts in all of the areas in which you need assistance. It is more likely that you will have to hire multiple employees to perform multiple tasks, and that’s going to mean a lot of time and effort on your part for screening, hiring and training.
Most web-based employees work remotely (or telecommute). This makes it extremely difficult to accurately track productivity, making hourly positions pretty risky from a financial standpoint.
Keeping employees, once you’ve gone to the trouble to find them and train them, requires regular, steady work. Can you guarantee that at this point? Otherwise you’ll find them seeking work elsewhere, as their financial livelihood depends on it, after all. Then you’ll be starting at square one with the hiring and training process. At this point, you might as well have just completed the tasks yourself!

2. Outsourcing vs. Employees

By choosing to outsource your website marketing tasks, you can eliminate the headaches involved with hiring and training employees.

Outsourcing companies have already screened and trained employees for just the specific marketing tasks you need to have completed.
When you outsource, you don’t have to worry about having a steady stream of work or the productivity of your employees on an hourly basis, as you can hire your tasks out on a per-project basis, paying a pre-set amount for the completed assignment.
You won’t ever have to be burdened with employee issues or paperwork when you choose, instead, to outsource.

Outsourcing your marketing tasks can lighten your workload significantly, while streamlining your promotional efforts and ultimately bringing you much-needed website traffic (aka success!)

Online Business Management Tips – Staying on Track toward Success

November 3rd, 2011

Owning an online business can be extremely rewarding for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is a little thing we all dream about called freedom; freedom from a boss, freedom from a schedule, and the freedom to control your own income after a while, when your online business begins experiencing some success. But there can actually be a downside to this level of personal freedom as it applies to the success (or failure) of your online business. Here are a few tips to help you avoid the potential pitfalls associated with being your own boss and help you stay on track toward business success.

Clearly Define Your Goals

The autobiographies of all successful entrepreneurs start with the same thing; clearly defined goals. Even if the outcome you hope to achieve lies far down the road, a clear definition of that goal right from the beginning will help you keep your eye on the prize, so to speak, which will help you stay motivated for the long term.

Break It Down

Another trick to staying on track over the long term is to break your end goal into smaller, more reachable goals along the way. This strategy gives you something immediate to focus your attention on achieving, as well as establishing a sort of road map toward success.

Stick to a Schedule

When you find yourself not having to answer to anyone other than yourself, it’s easy to slack off from time to time. This pitfall can be avoided by simply setting a work schedule for your self. Put it on paper, and, above all, stick to it. Self discipline is a major key to successful online business management.

Enjoy!

Most importantly, take time to enjoy your newfound freedom even as you work at building and growing your online business. Enjoying the journey toward success is the secret to staying on the path!

Starting an Online Business Part 2

October 11th, 2011

While it may sound very easy to start an online business, it is truly a lot more complicated than simply buying a webpage and selling your product. As with any good business, an online business requires just as much research and upfront work to guarantee success. Even with plenty of research and work, success may still not be guaranteed.

One of the most important factors to consider when contemplating an online business is to decide who your target market will be. As a small business, you will simply not have the funds to target large group’s right from the beginning. The key is to sell your product to one market and then hopefully expand from there. Once you decide who your target market will be, you can then brainstorm how to advertise your product to that market.

How do you decide who your target market will be? Ideally, your product will be able to serve the needs of your target marker. In order to know what you target market needs, you need to know every detail you can about them. Secondly, be sure you fully understand your product and eliminate the obvious markets. You will certainly not be selling denture cream to teenagers. Be as specific as you can when it comes to identifying your target market. At the beginning, the more specific your target market is, the more likely it is you will have success.

By really understanding your product and pinpointing exactly who your target market will be, you will be able to better formulate an advertising plan that will compete with other small business and hopefully draw in customers. Be sure to understand that as a small business, you cannot compete with large businesses that have seemingly endless funds for advertising.

Starting an online business can be challenging, but with enough effort and research, you can be successful. You simply have to fully understand your product, specifically identify your target market, and then advertise appropriately.

Starting an Online Business

September 27th, 2011

While most people think starting an online business is an extremely challenging task, it is actually quite simple and straight forward once you have all the appropriate tools.

The first and obviously most important part of starting an online business is knowing what you want to sell. Are you going to be selling a specific product or just random things you find around the house or in thrift stores? Do you want to make jewelry and launch a full scale online business that focuses specifically on jewelry? Before you even consider starting an online business you have to think about the specifics of what you want to sell.

Many people think that to start an online business that they must have a business website. This is not the case. Purchasing a website domain can be very costly, probably too costly for a person trying to start an online business, with an untested product, for the first time. A great way to test out a product and the online business waters is to try to sell your product on Amazon or Ebay. Both provide a no-cost sign up and make your product available to millions of people. This is a great way to gauge if your product will sell and if you are actually interested in having an online business.

There is no law that says you have to create a website for your online business right away. If you find yourself doing successful on Ebay and Amazon, you may be ready to actually call yourself a business. If this is the case, make sure to go through all the legal channels and get a business license. After this step, you are free to branch out in to a number of directions. You could obtain a resellers license to buy products wholesale and sell them for a profit. Or, you could make more of your own product and sell them whole to other buyers. Whatever you decide, an online business can be a profitable market for your product.

How to Keep Good Records

September 7th, 2011

Keeping good records for your online business is crucial. Certain records are mandatory for the IRS. Other records are just a good idea to help you judge and monitor your success. Holding proof of sales, transactions, payroll, purchases, support documentation, etc., will help you with any legal, tax, and service issues that arise. What method or software you use for record keeping is entirely up to you – do what makes sense for your business.

When you worked for someone else, they had the burden of keeping income records for you. With your own business, you are the one to track all of your personal and business income for the IRS. You are going to have to file tax returns. The burden of proof for the numbers and deductions you turn in falls on you. Keep receipts. Keep income statements. Keep record of sales, payroll, and purchases. You are going to want every possible deduction for monies you put into your business, and you are going to have to be able to prove where those monies went. No specific book keeping system is required by the IRS – use whatever system you like as long as it clearly shows your expenses and income. As far as how long you need to keep records, that will vary depending on the kind of record and the kind of business. Find those answers and keep your books accordingly.

Another great benefit of keeping good records is the ability to monitor your progress and (hopefully) success. Numbers don’t lie. You are able to see clearly, in black and white, whether your bottom line is growing or not. Predictions for the future can also be made from these numbers and trends. Of course, the online business world is volatile, and predictions are not always accurate – especially if you are not keeping your site and business fresh and appealing. Do not use only numbers to judge your success, but do not ignore them. You are, after all, in this to make money and be successful. Never completely ignore the indicators that you are failing. Take action to change those numbers if you are not satisfied with them.

An under-utilized perk of keeping good records is creating a customer database. You have to keep your receipts and record of transactions … these have your customer information on them. If the product or service you are selling is something that will be needed again, put those customers and contact information into a database, and USE IT! Contact your previous customers. Check on their satisfaction with your product. See if they need more. Ask them for referrals. Don’t be a bother, but do use the resources you have.

Social Bookmarking

August 18th, 2011

Getting your website out there and noticed is a crucial component to running a successful online business. One great way to gain exposure for your site is by using social bookmarking sites. These sites let you upload links to your website and share them with users of the site. Networking within the social bookmarking site with other, like-minded people can give you the chance to create back-links, as well.

How Do Social Bookmarking Sites Work?

Essentially, a social bookmarking site is a website where people go to search and share other websites. You can upload a link to your site and share it with other users. With most of these sites, you are able to store, manage, and search websites, as well as create a social network of other users. The more users who rate or “like” your site, the more prevalence you have on the site.

What are the advantages of using Social Bookmarking Sites?

The obvious benefit is simply having a place to upload your link to. Any exposure is good. Users gain access to your business with very little effort on your part.

Another great benefit is building a network of people within the site you are using. We all know how important networking is to the success of any business. Take the time to dig into the social bookmarking site you are using and do all you can with it. Take the time to build those networks for yourself and your business. Create back-links for your website within your network of users’ sites.

There are literally hundreds of social bookmarking sites. The more of these sites you use, the more networks you can create. Using these sites well also improves your search engine ranking – the more sites you are on, and the more “likes” or ratings you get, the more prevalent you are on the internet, which equals a higher ranking on search engines. This, of course, is a result we all want.

How do you get started on Social Bookmarking Sites?

This process is VERY simple. Most social bookmarking sites require a membership – just sign up and go. Get your website link uploaded, search and store other sites, reach out & build a network of users, get them (and others) to rate your site, and gain exposure. Explore the site, and do all you can with it. Invest a little of your time to reap the benefits of being seen as much as you can be.

The Importance of Good Customer Service

August 8th, 2011

One huge advantage of an online business over a physical storefront is the virtually unlimited client potential.  It’s no secret that a successful online business has a vast customer pool to draw from.  Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of thinking, “there’s always more customers”, however.  How you treat your clients will have a great impact on your current and future success.  The following tips, for the most part, are pretty simple … yet very often overlooked.

1    Know Your Customer
Identify your target consumer and get to know all you can     about them.  Study trends and find the appropriate voice with     which to speak to them.  Design and update your website     with them in mind – not just your own aesthetic.  From colors     to content, you want to capture and keep their attention.

2    Look At The Whole Experience
You must be able to put yourself in your customer’s shoes, so     to speak.  See what they see … and see it through to the     end. From the initial visit to your site, through the discovery     and interest in your product or content, to the purchase of     your product or membership to your site.  Even though this is     the desired end response, you cannot stop here – because     your customer’s experience does not end here. Follow it     through from shipping, to receipt, to reaction. How did you     do?  Did you deliver all you wanted to?  If not, adjust!     Encourage feedback from your clients … and LISTEN!  If they     are happy, they will recommend you to their network of     people.  If not, you have certainly lost this customer and,
probably, many, many more.

3    Keep Them Engaged
Once your site has been discovered … and liked … now you     need to keep your customer’s interest.  It is very important to     keep your content up to date and fresh.  Visual     stimulation is     key.  If your client comes back to your site and     the look is     updated and different, he/she will linger longer,    thinking there     is new content or product to discover – even if     you have only     made subtle changes to content.  Of course, if you do add     new product and/or important content, make sure you put it     prevalently on display.

4   Keep Them Coming Back
Once you have gotten your customer, you want to be able to market to him/her.  Get an email address as part of the checkout / purchase process.  Be careful not to send out TOO many emails, but do send one out whenever there is something interesting going on with your site.  You want to stay in their minds without annoying them with a full inbox. Make available and encourage your clients to “like” you on Facebook and follow you on Twitter.  Not only can you get your word out to them, but also to all on their “friends” list.

Good customer service is not a new concept or business tool, but remains very important, nonetheless.  With so many products, sites, and services available, you need to look for simple things that will set you apart from you competitors.  Going above and beyond to satisfy your customer will certainly go a long way.

The Importance of Backlinks

July 26th, 2011

Even if you are brand new to the world of internet marketing, you are undoubtedly familiar with the term “backlink.”  So what are backlinks and why are they important to your website’s success?

What Are Backlinks?

Backlinks are, quite simply, links that point from one web page to another.  When you have a link embedded on one of your own web pages pointing to another page on the same website, you have established and internal backlink.  When a link is embedded into the text of another website which points to your web page, you have established an external backlink.  External backlinks are more important in the quest to achieve higher page rank and keyword authority, so that’s what we’ll focus on here.

Why are Backlinks Important?

Backlinks are crucial in establishing two key elements for your web page:

Page Rank
Keyword Authority

What is Page Rank?

Page Rank is where your site appears on the search engine listing for a specific keyword.  Page Rank is determined by a variety of factors, the most important of which is the number of links that are pointing to it—backlinks.

What is Keyword Authority

Keyword Authority is even more important than Page Rank when it comes to building credibility with the search engines.  Keyword Authority is established by two main components:

Keyword Optimization
Backlink Relevance

What is Keyword Optimization?

Keyword Optimization is the basis of SEO marketing.  It is the strategic placement, at the proper ratio, of keywords throughout the text of your content.  Keyword Optimization can be applied to content placed directly on your web page, or within the external articles you publish on topics related to your web page’s general theme (an important component of external backlinks.)

What is Backlink Relevance?

Establishing external backlinks pointing to your web page is not enough to build Keyword Authority.  These backlinks will ideally be placed on relevant websites or directed from relevant articles.  In other words, you can’t create a backlink from a site or article focused on “Household Tips for Busy Moms” pointed to your web page about “Dog Obedience Strategies.”  They have nothing, really, to do with one another—therefore, this backlink is not relevant.  Now, if this “Household Tips for Busy Moms” website has a section about training the family dog, then this backlink has suddenly become relevant, and therefore an asset to your Keyword Authority, which in turn boosts your Page Rank.

How to Establish Relevant Backlinks to Your Web Page

There are a variety of strategies used by successful internet marketers to establish relevant backlinks to their web pages.  One very effective way to establish relevant backlinks is article marketing.

What is Article Marketing?

There are several components involved in creating an article with Keyword Optimization and that will establish Keyword Authority for your backlink.  Article marketing is its own topic to be explored independently, but it basically involves creating relevant, keyword rich articles (without “saturating”), submitting them to article directories, etc. and using them to backlink to your own website.

So, what are backlinks?  They are the determining factor in establishing credibility, Keyword Authority and Page Rank for your website.  Why are backlinks important?  They are the determining factor in your website’s success!

The Importance of adding Fresh Content

July 15th, 2011

Even if you’re brand new to website marketing, you’ve already heard the phrase “website content” more often than you’ve heard your own name.  So, just how important is fresh content on your website?

Well, quite simply, if you don’t keep fresh content on your website, you really don’t have a business.   A website with up-to-date, engaging and informative content is a website that gets noticed.  Here are a few tips to help you understand the “what,” the “why” and the “how” of fresh content for your website.

What, Exactly, Constitutes “Fresh Website Content?”

Website content consists of a few things, namely articles, videos, and pictures.  Now, these aren’t just any articles, videos, etc.  In order for your website to rank highly on the search engines, your website content must be relevant and fresh, meaning it has to be related to your website topic and updated frequently.

Why Is Fresh Website Content so Important?

As we just said, fresh content helps your website get noticed, but that’s just the blanket explanation.  You see, your website content is what the search engines “read” to determine the relevance of your site in relation to what someone is searching for on the web.  Once your website has been “found,” it’s your content that grabs your potential customer’s interest—hopefully for long enough to make a sale!  When you’ve successfully grabbed your reader’s interest, updating your content frequently keeps them coming back for more.

How to keep Fresh Content on Your Website

Keeping your website up-to-date with fresh, quality content can be a daunting task, indeed.  Who has time to do all that keyword research and write all those articles?  That’s assuming you’re one of the lucky few with any writing talent to begin with!

You could always hire someone to write your content for you, but where do you start your search for a quality, affordable writer?  One quick search of the freelancer market will have your head spinning.

That’s where outsourcing companies come in: professional content providers and webmasters who make their living by providing just the quality website content you need to get your website ranked on page one; fresh website content to get your business noticed!

So, how important is fresh content on your website?  It’s the major determining factor in your online success!  Best to leave it in the capable hands of outsourcing professionals—then sit back and enjoy your success!
